5 watches you (may) have missed from Watches and Wonders

The world watch fair closed its doors in the spring. Good news: today, the first pieces announced at the show are arriving in shops! Online, you could already discover them. But other watches have often flown under the radar. Not ours: follow us!

Rebirth of a legend

Angelus Chronodate
Angelus Chronodate

Very few people are still interested in Angelus. However, among collectors and at auctions, Angelus is a historical chronograph brand, among the most appreciated in the world. It is notably known for its chrono and date display, simply called Chronodate.

After some rather surprising iterations - including a 100% sapphire tourbillon - the brand has returned to its fundamentals: the famous Chronodate. The timepiece has been thoroughly revised and modernised. In particular, there are two versions, made of titanium, one in grey and the other in a magnificent blue. The chronograph is bicompax and the date is indicated by a central hand. The chrono is really sporty, nervous, resistant, and with a very nice homemade movement. A magnificent sports watch that has passed under the radar but that marks the return to the forefront of a historical house of chronometry!

Rieussec, the must-have

There have been many novelties this year at Montblanc, mainly very accessible chronographs as well as collector's pieces in limited series with Minerva movements.

But, in between, there is always the magnificent Nicolas Rieussec chronograph. The piece was released about fifteen years ago but remains in the catalogue. It is the object, almost every year, of an aesthetic re-edition. In the 2022 version, we discover a magnificent guilloche dial where we find the two chronograph discs that turn counterclockwise. The hour and minute dials have been considerably refined. The hands have been modernised, in particular the small skeleton hand that indicates the second time zone. For the first time, the case has been satin-finished and the watch is worn on a fabric strap. A new, very urban, contemporary, and beautiful version that almost nobody has seen! And that's a shame.

Beautiful Nebula !

Arnold & Son Nebula
Arnold & Son Nebula

It is perhaps one of the most beautiful skeleton creations of the entire Salon: the Nebula signed Arnold & Son. It is based on a classic watchmaking principle, where each component has its own bridge. One can distinguish here the escapement, the small seconds and the barrel (among others). The piece is very fine, very elegant and reveals itself in a construction where blue is king, both on the bracelet, the flange and the plate. Very chic and at the same time very modern, the Nebula is the most beautiful proof that traditional watchmaking can adapt to modernity!

Speake-Marin Ripples: a nice touch!

Most of the brands that position themselves on the sport chic segment are in the wake of the Nautilus or the Royal Oak. The small independent company Speake-Marin does not necessarily do things differently but offers a watch that synthesizes five decades of sport chic elegance.

The case combines the best of the round and cushion formats. The dial is structured with côtes de Genève that are not vertical but horizontal. The hands are also noteworthy, including the heart-shaped hour hand and the minute hand, which is curved in its centre before widening again on its second half. Finally, the choice to place the small second between 1 and 2 o'clock is really audacious and very original. We think it is a great success. And what about you?

Rebellion Re-Volt Chrono Carbon Colored

We thought we had seen almost everything in terms of carbon watches, but we didn't count on this creation signed Rebellion! The case is massive, the format rectangular, the dial rests on a honeycomb structure, but it is really the case that makes the difference. It is a very light carbon piece, with each layer of the material coloured in a very surprising glacier blue. There is a similar version that seems to hesitate between red and orange, just as surprising. For thrill-seekers.

At these watch fairs, there are always pieces to be found, from small or big brands, no matter. The most important thing is to be found on the wrist.
