Guide 5 Watches you can really dive with
From French Polynesia to the Red Sea, the Galapagos Islands, and the Andaman Sea, these timepieces were made to discover the world’s oceans.
Diving is one of the only sports where keeping track of the time is essential to safety. Divers always need to gauge how long they have been in the water as well as plan decompression stops when resurfacing. For this, most divers use a diving computer strapped to their wrist that gives them all the essential information for a safe dive. But occasionally, this equipment fails, and when this happens a backup can save lives. This is where a mechanical divers’ watch comes into its own.
A mechanical diver’s watch doesn’t rely on batteries, just wind it up, set the unidirectional bezel to the minute hand to track elapsed time, and all the information you need is available to you at a glance.
Not all water-resistant watches can take the extreme pressures of diving though. Even if a watch says it is water-resistant to 100 meters/10 bar, that doesn’t mean you can go down that deep with it. If you are looking to scuba dive, look for a wristwatch that has 200 meters/20 bar or more to be assured of its functionality in the water.
At WatchDreamer, we love divers’ watches and have a large selection of “real deal” timepieces for exploring the depths. Here are five of our latest arrivals that are just waiting to be taken into the water.
